Jeremy R. Hammond - Empowering Independent Journalism

A day before Donald Trump was inaugurated into the Oval Office, a ceasefire agreement was announced between Israel and Hamas.

While Biden issued a statement taking credit, it was well recognized in the media that the deciding factor was instead the involvement of Trump and his envoy Steve Witkoff.

The propaganda narrative, though, was that Trump "pressured" Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept the ceasefire.

What rather happened is that Trump made clear his commitment to supporting Israel's violations of international law and oppression of the Palestinians.

The ceasefire was honored by Hamas, which released 33 hostages as agreed, but it was violated by Israel, which on March 2 reimposed its policy of using starvation as a weapon of war and blocking all humanitarian aid.

Instead of urging Israel to stop violating the agreement, Trump publicly encouraged Israel to scrap the ceasefire and resume it's genocidal assault on the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.

Donald Trump -- like Biden before him -- is now guilty of violating the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which prohibits complicity in genocide along with direct commission of this crime against humanity.

I've written what is to my knowledge the most comprehensive overview of the US government's bipartisan support for Israel's genocide in Gaza that you will find anywhere.
